A goldendoodle left tied to a baggage counter at the Las Vegas airport has found his happily ever after—with the very officer who helped rescue him.
The Day JetBlue Was Left Behind
It started on February 2, 2026, at Harry Reid International Airport. A woman arrived with her two‑year‑old goldendoodle, hoping to board a JetBlue flight. But when airline staff explained that she needed to complete online documentation to travel with the dog as a service animal, things took a heartbreaking turn.
Instead of filling out the paperwork, the woman allegedly tied her dog’s leash to a metal baggage sizer at the counter and walked away toward her departure gate—leaving him behind without a backward glance.
Airline employees quickly noticed the confused and abandoned dog and contacted authorities. When officers located the woman at her gate, she reportedly claimed the dog had a tracking device and would “find its way back to her”. She was arrested and later booked on charges of animal abandonment and resisting arrest.

A Nation Watches and Waits
The dog, quickly nicknamed “JetBlue” by rescue workers and the public, was taken into custody by Clark County Animal Protective Services.
Under Nevada law, he was placed on a mandatory 10‑day legal hold, giving the owner the opportunity to reclaim him. During that time, Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas reached out to the woman, but she hung up on them. The hold period expired on February 13 without the owner coming forward.

Thousands Apply, One Officer Wins
When Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas announced JetBlue was available for adoption, the response was staggering. The organization received more than 10,000 emails and over 2,700 adoption applications from people all over the world who had followed his story.
But in a twist that feels like fate, the perfect family was already in the system—and they had been waiting since September 2025.
Las Vegas police officer Skeeter Black was among the first responders on the scene the day JetBlue was abandoned. What the public didn’t know was that Black and his family had already completed the approval process months earlier with Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas, hoping to adopt a goldendoodle.
When rescue officials reviewed applications, they realized the perfect match was right in front of them.
A Forever Home at Last
On Saturday, February 21, JetBlue was officially adopted by Officer Black and his family.
The adoption was captured on video by a local Las Vegas ABC affiliate, showing the joyful moment JetBlue met his new family. For a dog who had been left alone in one of the busiest airports in the country, the scene was pure happiness.
“We’re going to enjoy him. He’s going to be very much loved. We’re just excited,” Black told reporters.
Danielle Roth of Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas said JetBlue’s story brought out the best in the community. “This ended up showing us what our community really is. What that a dog can actually pull everybody’s hearts the way it did is amazing,” she said.

A Ripple Effect of Kindness
JetBlue’s story didn’t just change one dog’s life—it sparked a wave of generosity. JetBlue Airlines donated $6,000 to the rescue, funds that will help cover the cost of surgeries for dogs in their care. That amount was later matched by an anonymous donor.
The attention also led to a dozen other dogs being adopted from the rescue, with more expected. Roth hopes JetBlue’s face will represent all the dogs still waiting. “They deserve the same happiness”.
