A dog found fighting for life after being dumped in the trash on a freezing December night has melted hearts everywhere—and the moment he convinced his foster mom to adopt him is going viral.
On December 15, a Good Samaritan in St. Louis was taking out the trash when she spotted a dog lying motionless on the cold ground. He was nearly frozen and severely emaciated. She and her brother wrapped him in a blanket and rushed him to Stray Rescue of St. Louis for emergency care.
“He had no temperature and needed supportive care,” the shelter shared on Facebook. “He made it through that first crucial night, and very slowly began to gain strength and an appetite.”
Soon, he could stand on his own. After a couple of weeks, he was taking short walks. Eventually, he was medically cleared for a foster home—a place where he could continue healing.
That foster home changed everything.

The First Day That Changed Everything
The woman who opened her home to him didn’t expect to fall in love. She had lost her own dog in April 2025 and wasn’t sure her heart was ready again.
But on day one, Crème Brûlée made his feelings clear.
When his foster mom returned home from work, he climbed to the highest point of the couch just to reach her. Then he sat on her like he never wanted to let go.
“In that moment, I truly believed he thought I might not come back,” she told the shelter. “The relief and trust in his eyes showed me how much he needed someone who would always return. That was when I knew my heart had chosen him. He was never meant to be temporary. He is home.”

A Viral Sensation
The video of their reunion quickly went viral, receiving over 9,800 likes and 757 comments on Facebook.
Joanne Walters wrote: “I’m not crying. No I am not. I am definitely NOT. Oh Hell, yes I am LOL.”
Barb Thompson added: “Bless all who rescued him and bless you for adopting him.”
Martha Nolle Williams commented: “His eyes are so full of love and appreciation!”
The Power of Fostering
Looking back, Crème Brûlée’s owner says the experience has been life-changing.
“Watching where he started and seeing how far he has come, simply with love, a safe place to sleep, and a little food, has been incredible. He went from tired and unsure to healthy, gentle, and now walks with such confidence.”
She added: “Crème Brûlée reminded me how incredibly resilient dogs are, and how all they ever want is love and safety.”
